There’s a lot of focus on the physical benefits of exercise, witch is not a bad thing since physical health is important, but today I wanted to write a little bit about the mental benefits of physical training.
Working out and eating healthy is not just going to make you physically healthier and give you a good looking body, it is also going to make you mentally healthier, and your mental health is also very important in order for you to be happy.
So here’s some psychological benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
1. Increased confidence
When you’re working hard in the gym and eating right you will start to see results, as soon as you see those results you will get a great feeling of accomplishment.
To me this feeling is like no other feeling in the world.
When you finally get rewarded for all the hard work you put in you will also start feeling confident in your own ability to reach your goals.
And of course, when your physique changes for the better you also feel better about yourself.
2. Reduced mental illness
I think it’s very common to underestimate how the food you eat affects your brain, and when your brain doesn’t get what it needs you are more likely to develop depressions, anxieties and other mental illnesses.
Healthy eating and regular exercise will boost brain power and leave you feeling happier, more focused and increase your memory.
3. Helps control addiction
When you are addicted to something your brain releases dopamine, also known as the reward chemical, every time you get it, may it be drugs, sugar, junk food or gambling. The same chemical gets released by your brain when you work out.
4. Improved self discipline
When you are trying to stick to a healthy lifestyle you have to resist temptation and make time for your workouts.
By consistently doing this you are training your self discipline witch will benefit you in other aspects of your life as well.
Over all a healthy lifestyle will improve your quality of life on many aspects, both mentally and physically.

These are always very important to be reminded of. I have bipolar disorder and I know that healthy lifestyle makes a difference, but I’m not always great at maintaining one.

Totally agree! I have ADHD and I’ve noticed that I’m less impulsive with my food choices and definitely more disciplined in everything that I do.

Our bodies are meant to move. This is the way humans have evolved. Many of our bodies metabolic processes rely on physical movement and good nutrition in order to function optimally. Our modern day sedentary lives with consumption of too many processed foods upset the natural order of things, creating unhealthy minds and bodies.
Any advocate of a healthy lifestyle deserves a follow. I will be watching with interest.
